Which course should you choose for your child? A guide for parents
The right course gives a child not only knowledge but also self-confidence. The wrong choice can kill their interest. The questions below make the choice easier.
1. What is your child interested in?
- Computer games, gadgets, “how does this work?” — try a programming course.
- Foreign films, music, a dream of studying abroad — English. In the future, English is also a big advantage for programming and other professions.
- Religious knowledge, reading the Quran, a future connected with Arab countries — Arabic.
Guide your child by their interests, not because something is “in fashion right now” — where there is interest, there are results.
2. Age and level
The starting level matters for every course. If the group is too strong, the child falls behind and loses interest; if it's too easy, they get bored. That's why it's right to start by determining the level: a level test or a trial lesson helps with this.
3. What to look for in a learning centre
- Teachers: experience, certificates (for example, an IELTS score), ability to work with children.
- Practice: are lessons only theory, or does the child write code, speak and build projects?
- Monitoring: do parents get regular updates on attendance, payments and results?
- Real results: students' achievements in competitions, exams and projects.
- Trial lesson: can you see a lesson before paying?
4. Questions for your child after the trial lesson
- What did you like in the lesson, and what was unclear?
- Did the teacher answer your questions?
- Do you want to go again?
The most important thing is that the child says “I'll go again” on their own. A child who is taught through interest rather than pressure achieves far more in the long run.
